Why Your Fleet Maintenance Facility Needs To Go Greener

With 2017 in the books, we have seen a lot of progress coming out of the commercial transportation industry. For the past few decades, there have been increasing amounts of pressure for maintenance facilities to remain environmentally conscious. Unfortunately, “going green” is not as easy as it sounds. In many cases, budgetary restrictions can inhibit a facility’s ability to utilize eco-friendly practices and utilize more green products. This can also be challenging as it often requires a facility to sacrifice valuable time to make these transitions. If you are an owner of a fleet maintenance facility, it is important to keep in mind that there are many ways to create a green agenda. Not only is being environmentally conscious ethical, but it also helps to strengthen your company image. Here is a brief overview of what has happened in the commercial transportation industry and what your facility can do to go green in 2018.

Recent Progress In The Commercial Transportation Industry

In recent years, we have been seeing more heavy-duty vehicles available in hybrid and electric models. This includes vehicles such as buses and semi-trucks. On top of that, big-name commercial manufacturers are utilizing semi-trucks that are battery-powered. We are seeing a drastic increase in the number of commercial vehicles that will soon feature electric or hybrid powertrains. Navigant research reports that over the next ten years, the number of such engines in circulation will jump from only 125,500 to over 1.6 million.

How Can I Make My Facility Greener?

If your fleet maintenance facility makes these kinds of changes, it can improve efficiency and your brand image. One of the best ways to maintain a green-friendly facility is to modernize your operations. This can be done by swapping out old features with newer products. An example of such would be to replace your shop’s outdated lighting fixtures with more energy efficient options like LED. Another step that could be taken would be utilizing solar panels for energy usage.

When you implement green products into your fleet, you have taken steps to reduce pollution and operate an eco-friendly maintenance facility.  Every small change makes a difference.
